Microsoft 365 Copilot: Implications for your business

12/05/2023 minute read OneAdvanced PR

With AI being fully embraced by companies worldwide, it’s no wonder that the tech giants are starting to integrate it into their most popular and powerful enterprise tools and applications.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is one of the new innovations that Microsoft has created to enhance its Microsoft 365 platform to heights never seen before. With seamless integration into all of the 365 suite, this AI-powered tool is shaping how companies will use the platform going forward.

In this article, we'll cover the ins and outs of Microsoft 365 Copilot, and all the new tools and features that it brings to the table for your organisation.

What is Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Microsoft 365 Copilot is a productivity tool provided by Microsoft for the 365 platform. It utilises AI-enabled and enhanced features to supercharge your 365 experience and turn your words into a powerful productivity tool.
Microsoft 365 Copilot isn’t the first copilot application to exist for organisations to use. With other companies such as Github creating copilot tools to make life easier for its users, Microsoft’s addition to that group is anything but surprising.

Utilising large-language models such as the powerful GPT-4, this isn’t just an AI chat interface for 365. It instead transforms the way users interact with 365 applications and uses them within their workflows.

This differs for each application, but the general idea of 365 Copilot is to infuse AI technology with everyday programmes such as Word, Outlook, and Excel to truly help those applications reach their full power. That’s the exact reason why Copilot is a big deal for anyone — it takes technology that can take your business to the next level and implements it into everyday aspects of the workplace.

Microsoft 365 Copilot features

Copilot in Microsoft Outlook

Copilot in Microsoft Outlook unlocks the full AI potential of emails. Instead of having to constantly sort through your emails yourself — which is a timely endeavour — Copilot helps you separate what’s important from what’s not.
As well as managing your emails, Copilot helps you write and draft emails with ease. With just a few clicks and a prompt, Copilot gives you access to a fully customisable draft with options to change the tone and length of the email.

Copilot even works in Outlook mobile, which means that you can utilise the full power of AI on the go without losing any of the efficiency of the mobile platform. With this, you have the full power of complex artificial intelligence in your hands — and your productivity won’t suffer for it due to the user-friendly interface.

Copilot in Microsoft Teams

Meetings are a large part of the business world. With more companies going remote and more workers working away from the office setting, Microsoft Teams is a must-have for any modern company looking to create the best environment for its employees.

Copilot has been integrated into Teams to be able to create a full meeting recap and summary. With this, you can ask Copilot questions about the meeting summary — which will save lots of time. Copilot also highlights content within this recap, ensuring that the most important information is conveyed with ease.

Copilot in Viva

In Microsoft Viva — the premier employee experience platform in the Microsoft ecosystem — Copilot is there to help you create engaging posts that will capture the attention of those in your organisation. Simply enter a prompt and choose the tone that you’d like, and Copilot will handle the rest for you. This will mean that you no longer need to sit there for hours thinking about how to phrase a post — Copilot is there, ready to help.

Copilot in Word

Having your own writing assistant with you at all times is a great commodity — and Copilot is the best assistant you could ask for. With just a brief prompt, Copilot will be able to generate any written work that your organisation requires — intelligently. Copilot will be able to pull from files around your organisation and ensure that the tone, content, and formatting are all correct based on any examples you direct it towards.
With this, you can easily generate long documents that can take a while to write and format with a few clicks.

Copilot in PowerPoint

Copilot in Powerpoint easily lets you turn text-based documents into engaging presentations, meaning that you can have professional-looking presentations intelligently filled with information from a given document in seconds.

Copilot will be able to create slides and edit slides to adjust their length, tone, and complexity, meaning that you can have your PowerPoint polished to a professional standard with just a few prompts.

The future of AI and Microsoft

Microsoft is fully committed to an AI focus. With their large March 16th ‘Future of Work’ event — that Copilot was announced at — Microsoft have promised that this is only the beginning.

In fact, CEO Satya Nadella has said that ‘every Microsoft product will have some of the same AI capabilities to completely transform the product’ in the future — and with its early investment in OpenAI, it’s likely that we’ll see Microsoft move its focus further towards AI in the coming months and years.
Nonetheless, Copilot and the prior necessary investment into OpenAI is the biggest move that Microsoft has made in the AI industry so far — and so their imagination is truly the limit for Microsoft’s dream of the office of the future right now.
